All Hail the Hollywood Nazi
After Tom Cruise tried to revamp the image of the Germans in America and elsewhere with his Stauffenberg movie, it’s time for Quentin Tarantino and Brad Pitt to tear it apart, piece by piece. America’s favorite movie villain just won’t leave—long live the Hollywood Nazi!
It’s good vs. evil, it’s humanity vs. the devil himself, it’s, well, read for yourself what the Army officer played by Brad Pitt has to say:
“We’re going to be dropped into France, dressed as civilians. We’re going to do one thing and one thing only – killin’ Nazis!”
“Members of the National Socialist Party conquered Europe to murder, torture, intimidation, and terror. And that’s exactly what we’re gonna do to them. We will be cruel to the German and due to our cruelty they will know who we are. They will find the evidence of our cruelty in the disembowed, dismembered and disfigured bodies of their brothers we leave behind us.”
“The German will be sickened by us. The German will talk about us. And the German will fear us. Nazi ain’t got no humanity. They need to be destroyed. Each and every man under my command owes me one hundred Nazi scalps. And I want my scalps!”
Nazis are the new zombies. They don’t eat brains, but babies. They are fun to kill, and it’s totally guilt-free. They are easily recognizable by the weird noises they make. They feature a very distinctive look that is a great dress up for Halloween (of course, this doesn’t apply for members of the Royal Family). They are a movie cliché and spur their own tribute spoofs.
Isn’t it about time that the new subgenre “Nazigore” (there are already 13,500 google hits) is introduced by the video shop owners of this world?
Here’s the trailer for Tarantino’s new kill-the-Nazi movie “Inglourious Basterds” [sic!]:

is it just me or is “inglourious” misspelled? that’s weird…
apart from that, yeah, the hollywood nazi really is the ultimate villian, especially because it’s so convenient: you don’t have to worry about a multi-faceted character or tell a story of how this person became an evil monster (or, as in Stauffenberg’s case, they never bothered to tell the story of how a Nazi supporter turned into Hitler’s almost assassin)
Therefore, I’m not really into this new type of Nazi movies – but maybe Germans find it hard to look at any type of World War 2 movie as “entertainment”. We want historical accuracy!

It seems that the movie title is a reference to the 1970s Italian war movie “Inglorious Bastards,” which is about five GIs on a mission behind enemy lines in Nazi Germany. Apparently, Italians are better at English spelling.
Maybe they don’t own they rights to the title? Could also be a wordplay that you only understand after watching the movie. In this case: clever marketing!

By the way, the movie is set to be shown in Cannes in May, cinema release is said to be August 2009.

Brad Pitt’s character name is “Aldo Raine?” As in Aldo Ray? Looks like a remake of the old biker gang in Vietnam film The Losers! I think Mr Tarantino is running out of ideas to crib.
