The Best of Germany
2006 for Germans was not only the year of the World Championship. On the sociopolitical level there was also a broad discussion about nationality. Photographer Lars Borges found himself in the middle of this discussion or as he puts it “in an ocean of black, red and golden flags”. Is young Germany ready for a new national conscience? Or is it the first signs of the old demons returning?
Lars Borges wanted to find out and went on a 5.000 km trail entitled ‘The Best of Germany’ which he followed according to an American travel guide. Six weeks and 2.000 shots later he had created his personal picture of Germany.
A selection of about 180 fragments of this picture will be on display just for one night, as the visitors can take them home free of charge right after the vernissage.
